The Post-Secondary Learning Act (PSLA) of Alberta describes the General Faculties Council (GFC) as the body responsible for the academic affairs of the university, subject to the authority of the Board of Governors. The GFC may also delegate aspects of academic decision making to standing committees as it sees fit.
Although only elected members of GFC may vote on GFC-related matters, all faculty are welcome to attend these meetings. It is the responsibility of GFC members to attend meetings regularly and to communicate the activities of the GFC to their Faculty or other constituents.
The activities of the GFC are guided by the executive committee of the GFC, which meets regularly to discuss agenda items for upcoming meetings
